Frequently Asked Questions
What can I do in IsoHappy Free without paying?
You can mount and inspect any supported disk or optical image (.iso, .bin/.cue, .dmg, .dd, .img, .vhd, .vhdx, .vmdk, .ibp/.ibq), browse all 15+ partition and file system trees, run Platter Surface Scans, compute MD5/SHA-1/SHA-256 checksums, extract standard optical files (ISO 9660, Joliet, Rock Ridge, El Torito, CD-i, VCD) and Red Book CD-DA audio tracks (.wav) completely free, and preview any deleted or signature-carved file up to 5 MB in-app.
Why do you offer free in-app previews of deleted and carved files?
Data recovery software should never ask you to pay blind. IsoHappy's Verify-First Recovery engine decodes up to 5 MB of any deleted or signature-carved file in memory—rendering images, playing audio, listing ZIP archive entries, or displaying text and hex—so you can confirm your files are intact before purchasing a license.
Is IsoHappy a subscription?
No. Every IsoHappy Personal Pro ($24.99 Founding Adopter price) and Forensic Pro ($89) license is a one-time lifetime purchase with no recurring fees.
Does IsoHappy install kernel extensions or modify my disk images?
Never. IsoHappy is written in 100% user-space Swift, runs inside the macOS App Sandbox, requires zero kernel extensions or root helpers, and opens source disk images strictly read-only.
What is the Broken Image Bounty program?
If you encounter a corrupted or obscure disk image or file system variant that IsoHappy cannot parse, use Help -> Export 64 KB Diagnostic Header Dump and email it to [email protected]. If your sample adds a new parser case to our automated regression suite, we will send you a lifetime IsoHappy Forensic Pro license for free.
Can IsoHappy read multi-track .bin/.cue and IsoBuster .ibp/.ibq managed images?
Yes. IsoHappy parses multi-session and multi-track .cue sheets (including Mode 1, Mode 2 Form 1/2 XA, and 2352-byte Red Book CD-DA audio tracks) as well as IsoBuster-compatible .ibp/.ibq managed image pairs with sector readability bitmaps.
